Siyapa vs Bons
(Battle of survival)
Siyapa hosted bons at harlaw road on 28th August.
Bons  captain shakeel won the toss and elected to bat first. Shakeel and Akhlaq opened for them whereas asif and Sahadat were the new ball bowlers for Siyapa. Sahadat drew first blood in 4th over when he removed shakeel caught by Sultan. This brought Nawaz into crease who played some fluent shots and was looking well settled for big total but he was removed by shahid courtesy one of the finest running catch by asif who also caught akhlaq at bowling of Naveed. They scored 29 and 32, respectively. This brought V.sood into the crease to accompany Haroon but he was cleaned by Naveed. Bons were 80/4 and siyapa seemed well on top. Fazal and haroon tried to settle in, at this stage Tanweer and amir were brought into attack who bowled at good line and length and created few chances but as usual siyapa fielders dropped about 6 chances few of them were literally dolly catches.  Both batsmen stuck in and scored half centuries eventually.Fazal was first to go who tried to accelerate after half century and got caught out at long-off by Shahid (well-judged catch)at bowling of naveed. This brought usman khan into crease who tried to accelerate but soon got LBW to Amir. Haroon made 63 not out (courtesy 5 drop chances) and Saeed Raja scored quick fire 21 runs. Bons ended at 262/6 in 40 overs. Naveed husnain, shahid, sahadat and amir siddique were among wickets, But most prolific bowling was of T.khan who was unlucky to not get any  wicket despite disturbing all batsmen with his excellent leg spin.
Siyapa started their innings by regular opener Khurram qadir and  make shift opener T.khan. They started perfectly as instructed by team management. Khurram played aggressively and dispatched Akhlaq for 3 boundaries in his 2nd over. They had 34 runs in 4 overs and things were looking great. Tanweer was first to get out who caught behind on Akhlaq’s bowling. Khurram was next  to be out who was cleaned by Akhlaq. Sameer   Was Joined by M shahid but both got out cheaply to akhlaq and fazal respectively. Siyapa were 52-4 and then soon afterwards umer was cleaned out by akhlaq making things worse, who dud not bother scoreres. They were 52/5 now. Amir and Naveed tried to consolidate but Amir was cleaned by fazal at individual score of 10 and naveed was removed by Saeed on 9 caught behind by keeper. At this stage siyapa were in deep trouble they were 78/7 when salman jafri and sahadat started to build up siyapa’s fight back. Sahadat played his natural stroke play and made 20 runs whereas salman slowly settled in and set his eye in. Sahadat was out while playing airy shot at midwicket. Siyapa had crossed 115 score mark and had 6 batting points but 8 down at this stage. Sultan was sent in to accompany salman as captain asif had injured his finger while attempting for a catch earlier in their fielding innings, sultan settled in slowly but by now salman had found his rhythm and he  was seeing ball like foot ball he started to cut loose and hit part time bons bowlers all around the ground. By this time bons had used up all overs of akhlaq n raja. Salman made 60 runs playing a magnificent hand in siyapa’s resurgence. He and sultan took score over 175 mark means siyapa batters had achieved  10 batting points. He was next to be out who was caught out by raja off fazal. Then came asif into crease who joined  sultan and both played brilliantly for 10 wicket and took team’s total to 223/9 at end of allotted 40 overs. Bons won the match but siyapa managed to get 16 points and showed good resilience specially by lower order players salman, sahadat, sultan and asif. Salman scored60,  sahadat 20 and sultan 27 not out along with asif 16 not out.
Overall match was played in cordial environment. Siyapa team has to blame its fielding effort for this massive score but then openers and lower order brought them to respectability.
Man of the match was salman jafri for his excellent effort with bat , at one stage siyapa had lost 7 wickets around 22nd over but lower order stuck in and played full quota of 40 overs.
Now we are heading for last week of league and grade 1 bottom part is still very closely poised. We are clearly ahead  of MBA and grampian at the moment but never know what brings up next weekend.
All the best for last game of season against Knight riders.
