Siyapa vs Knight Riders 2

After yet another washed-out game last week (match 7, gainst Methlick), the weather looked much more promising this week and Siyapa did finally got a game without being drenched in rain. But while the day was dry, it did rain wickets, whole 20 of them within 62 overs.

Siyapa travelled to Groats road today to play Knight Riders who are always a tough opponent at home. KR’s captain Mohan Vallatharasu won the toss and put Siyapa in to bat. Siyapa sent in Kamran Qaiser and debutant Khurram Qadir to set up a good base. However, T Dhanalakshmi and P. Ballal didn’t make things easy for them. T Dhanalakshmi quickly got K. Qaiser trapped in front of the wicket for 1, with an inswinging delivery. It didn’t get much easier when Salman joined Khurram Qadir on the wicket as runs were coming slowly both due to the quality of bowling and slow outfield. The batsmen successfully defended their wickets against the strike bowlers but only managed 25 off their 12 overs.

As T. Bindi and P. Ventakatejan came into the attack, it seemed that runs are coming more quickly, but T. Bindi then struck in his 2nd over getting the big wicket Salman (bowled, 18). He followed this up with another key batsman, Shahram Memon (caught behind,0). On the other end P. Ventakatejan initially struggled with his line eventually overcame the resistance of Khurram Qadir, getting him bowled on 12.

With Sharjeel and Khurram on the crease and score a paltry 45 runs/4 in 17 overs, this pair now was Siyapa’s best hope of a decent target. While both batsmen seemed confident, T. Bindi again took 2 wickets in close succession getting both Khurram (4) and Tanweer (0) bowled in his 7th over. Sharjeel eventually got some support on the other end by Ali Naseem and he capitalised it well taking the total to over 100 by the 33rd over but eventually fell to V. Nangia on 30 (caught behind).

Ali was joined by the captain Shahid on the crease who tried a few quick singles but that eventually led to Ali’s run out on 10. V. Nangia didn’t much longer to snarl up Sarmad Shakir (caught behind, 0) and Shahid (2, caught Sagar) giving them a total target of 113 to win.

After a nice tea break, Siyapa took the field to defend what felt like a very easy target but this changed very quickly as Shahid kept hitting the wickets as if its 10-pin bowling. Probably suffice to give the figure of the opening spell which read 6 overs, 4 maidens, 5 wickets for 2 petty runs. With Naveed Ahmed also getting a wicket on the other end, the run chase was pretty much nipped in the bud.

Sharjeel completed his all-round performance with 3 wickets of his own giving away a miserly 13 in 8 overs, and Ali Naseem and Tanweer bowled another 7 overs amongst them with later getting a wicket. But probably all of that paled in comparison to that initial flurry of wickets.

Knight Riders got all out on 52 and Siyapa managed to maintain their winning streak but the batting leaves a lot’s to be desired.
